On March 23, a delegation from the Nanjian Administration Bureau of the Yunnan Wuliangshan National Nature Reserve (Nanjian Bureau) visited the Institute of Eastern-Himalaya Biodiversity Research (IEBR) at Dali University. Both parties discussed potential collaborations in field monitoring, talent cultivation, and related areas.

The visit began with a tour of Dali University’s Biological Science Museum and Ethnic Art Museum, led by IEBR researchers Wang Rongxing and Li Depin. A symposium followed in Conference Room 507 of the Third Teaching Building. During the meeting, Director Duan of the Nanjian Bureau outlined the bureau’s current biodiversity monitoring and conservation efforts, as well as challenges faced. He expressed interest in collaborating with IEBR, acknowledging its achievements in biodiversity research.
Professor Xiao Wen, Director of IEBR, presented the institute’s accomplishments in biodiversity monitoring and its strategic vision. He emphasized that biodiversity conservation aligns with IEBR’s core mission and affirmed support for the Nanjian Bureau’s work. Both sides explored collaboration opportunities in technology transfer, talent development, and resource management. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanged suggestions.
Post-meeting, Director Xiao Wen introduced the delegation to IEBR’s research focus areas, field station network, institutional culture, and hands-on training philosophy. The two parties agreed to strengthen ties, combining biodiversity conservation with the cultivation of professionals to support regional development.

As a regional hub for biodiversity conservation, IEBR has collaborated with the Nanjian Bureau on projects including ungulate population surveys, baseline avian diversity studies, and migration monitoring at the Bird Gateway site in the Wuliangshan Reserve. Moving forward, IEBR will deepen cooperation with protected areas to advance long-term ecosystem monitoring, contributing to biodiversity preservation and ecological sustainability.
